This is an illustration for "The Fairy Serpent," which is basically the Chinese version of "Beauty and the Beast." In this tale, the girl's gigantic snake husband is turned back into a dashing fellow after he becomes dehydrated and she plunges him into a spring. This piece gave me a wonderful excuse to draw Han dynasty clothing, as well as research Chinese symbolism as a whole.
